US in talks with 4 groups to buy TikTok: Trump
What's the story
US President Donald Trump has confirmed that his administration is talking to four different groups who want to buy Chinese-owned social media platform TikTok.
TikTok's fate has been uncertain since January 19, when a law requiring its owner ByteDance to either sell the platform or face a ban took effect.
The law was enacted due to concerns over TikTok's data privacy practices and its potential threat to US national security.
Future
A deal might be possible soon
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said "it could" be possible to reach a deal soon. "We're dealing with four different groups, and a lot of people want it ... all four are good," he added.
Delay in enforcement
Executive order delayed enforcement of TikTok sale law
Upon taking office on January 20, Trump signed an executive order that sought to delay by 75 days, the enforcement of the law requiring TikTok's sale.
The move was intended to allow more time for negotiations and discussions over the platform's future ownership.
However, despite the delay, the uncertainty surrounding TikTok persists as potential buyers show interest.
