These Xiaomi phone are the best-selling mobiles of Q1 2019
Xiaomi continues to lead the Indian smartphone market as three of its budget offerings have become the best selling phones in Q1 2019. According to market research firm IDC, the Redmi 6A topped that charts followed by Redmi Note 6 Pro and Redmi Y2. The report noted that India's smartphone market grew by 7.1% despite the global market falling by 6% in Q1.
Budget-friendly Redmi 6A sold 30 lakh units in Q1 2019
According to IDC, Redmi 6A sold 3 million (1 million = 10 lakh) units in Q1 2019 to capture the highest market share of 9.5%. With 1.5 million units sold, the Redmi Note 6 Pro took the second spot to enjoy a 4.8% market share. The Redmi Y2 came third with a total of 1.23 million units sold for a 3.8% market share.
Seven Xiaomi smartphones made it to top 10
Samsung's Galaxy M20 came fourth while Galaxy J2 Core managed the fifth place. The sixth rank was taken by Vivo V15 Pro. The last three spots were occupied by Redmi 6 Pro, Redmi Note 7, and Redmi Go, in that order itself.
Decoding Xiaomi's success mantra
"Xiaomi has been consistently leading the smartphone market now for 7 consecutive quarters at the back of aggressively priced high spec models along with heavy promotional campaigns," said Upasana Joshi, Associate Research Manager, Client Devices, IDC India. She noted that Xiaomi's strong online sales strategy and growing offline presence has also helped the Chinese tech giant to dominate the Indian smartphone market.
Samsung managed to reclaim top spot in the premium segment
As per IDC's data, Xiaomi sold a total of 9.8 million smartphones in Q1 2019 to lead the Indian smartphone market with a 30.6% market share. Samsung, with a market share of 22.3%, took the second spot. In the premium segment ($500+), Samsung regained its leadership position with an overall share of 36% in Q1 2019, courtesy a good response to the Galaxy S10-series.
