Which are the highest-paying tech jobs right now?
The technology sector is experiencing massive growth, opening its doors to many professionals. We all know the tech industry offers some of the highest-paying jobs. But, which positions offer the best pay? To find the answer to this question, Comparably -a culture workplace and salary comparison platform- collected compensation data from thousands of companies and compared them. These are the top-paid tech jobs.
Which companies pay better, private or public firms?
Comparably's survey shows one can make more money at a public tech company than a private one. It also says the bigger the company, the more one will earn. For example, a senior developer at a private company with lesser funding is paid $73,000/year (roughly Rs. 47L) on an average while a senior developer at a public firm makes nearly double: $130,000 (Rs. 84L).
Keep these in mind while hunting for tech job
Comparably found that one who works as an architect or a senior product manager makes the most money, irrespective of where or which company they are in. Coming to the location, public tech companies in San Francisco pay the most. An architect makes $184,000/year (Rs. 1.2cr approximately) on an average at a SF public company while one in Los Angeles earns $155,000/year (Rs. 1cr).
Top 5 highest-paying jobs in public tech companies
Comparably found that popular tech job titles like an architect, lead engineer, and senior product manager among others earn the highest salaries at public companies in San Francisco. An architect makes $184,000/year on average (Rs. 1.19cr) while a lead engineer earns $180,000 (Rs. 1.16cr). Senior product manager is paid $178,000 (Rs. 1.15cr), sales manager $174,000 (Rs. 1.1cr), and senior developer $169,000 (Rs. 1.09cr).
Gender pay gap among sales managers, the highest
Comparably revealed -quite unsurprisingly- that there's a gender pay gap between men and women doing same jobs. A male senior developer at a public company earns $144,000 (Rs. 93L) on average while a woman holding the same position makes $137,000 (Rs. 88L). The biggest pay gap is between male and female sales managers; while men earn $151,000 (Rs. 98L), women make only $115,000 (Rs. 74L).
When and how did Comparably collect data?
Comparably collected anonymous compensation data from over 100,000 employees at small/medium/large public and private tech companies in the US. It also specifically analyzed the salaries of 15 of the most popular tech positions, including architect, data scientist, developer, IT manager, junior developer, lead engineer, marketing manager, operations manager, product manager, project manager, sales manager, sales representative, senior developer, senior product manager, and UI/UX designer.
Comparably didn't consider equity offered while polling candidates
While Comparably found that public companies pay the best salaries, it should be noted that some private firms offer equity to employees as compensation. However, Comparably didn't take this equity into consideration but took yearly bonuses into account. Launched in March 2016 by Jason Nazar, Comparably has focused on salary and compensation data and evolved into a company culture reviews platform like Glassdoor.
