Tata Sky reduces prices of its set-top boxes, again
Taking on rivals such as Dish TV and Airtel Digital TV, Tata Sky has once again slashed the prices of its DTH set-top boxes (STBs) by upto Rs. 301. The latest revision comes just a month after the company reduced the prices of its SD and HD STBs by Rs. 400. Notably, the new prices are now effective across all sales channels. Here's more.
A look at the new prices of STBs
After the first price cut in May, the HD STB was selling for Rs. 1,800 while the SD model was priced at Rs. 1,600. Now, the HD STB has received a price cut of Rs. 301 and it is available at Rs. 1,499 whereas the SD STB is listed at Rs. 1,399 after getting a deduction of Rs. 201.
New prices now reflecting on Tata Sky's website
The new prices are reflecting on the Tata Sky website and should be effective across all local dealers and retail stores in India. Note that the prices mentioned earlier are for the STB alone, you will need to subscribe to a channel pack separately.
Price cut not applicable to Tata Sky's premium STBs
Further, the latest price revision of upto Rs. 301 is only applicable to the HD and SD STBs. The Tata Sky 4K STB, which brings support for 4K viewing, continues to retail for Rs. 6,400. And, the top-end Tata Sky+ STB is listed at Rs. 9,300 and it offers 1080i resolution with cinema style Dolby Digital Surround Sound as well as on-device recording functionality.
Airtel, Dish TV have also slashed prices of their STBs
After Tata Sky's price revision in May-end, Airtel Digital TV reduced the prices of its HD and SD set-top boxes by Rs. 200. Then, in mid-June, Dish TV slashed the prices of its NXT HD STB from Rs. 1,649 to Rs. 1,590. Hence, it remains to be seen if the competitors would once again introduce price revisions following Tata Sky's latest move.
