Rivaling Nissan Kicks, Tata launches Harrier at Rs. 12.69 lakh
Taking on the recently introduced Nissan Kicks, Tata Motors has launched its Harrier SUV in India at Rs. 12.69 lakh. The sub-compact SUV, co-developed by Tata and Jaguar Land Rover, comes in four variants with diesel engine option only. The brand-new Harrier debuts Tata's IMPACT 2.0 design language with sharp looking exteriors and premium interiors. Here's our roundup.
Tata Harrier: At a glance
Tata-harrier'>Tata Harrier is based on the platform called Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced Architecture (OMEGARC) that has been designed to offer optimum rear seat legroom and ground clearance (205mm). It features projector headlamps, Tata's iconic hexagonal grille, LED DRLs, fog lamps, LED taillights, plastic claddings, and floating roof design. Further, it comes with a 50-liter fuel tank, 425-liter boot, and 16-or-17-inch alloy wheels.
Inside the cabin
The Tata Harrier features a black-and-brown color theme with faux wood inserts, premium fabric, leather upholstery, and chrome accents. You also get a multi-function, adjustable steering wheel, power windows, automatic climate control, reverse camera, automatic headlights and wipers, and upto six airbags. Further, the car offers an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with JBL audio system (top variant).
Under the hood
The Tata Harrier is powered by a Fiat-sourced four-cylinder 2.0-liter Kryotec diesel engine which is tuned to churn out 138bhp at 3,750rpm and 350Nm of peak torque between 1,750-2,500 rpm. Compatible with Bharat Stage 6 (BS6), the engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Further, the five-seat car offers front-wheel-drive transmission with three driving modes and a three-mode Terrain Response System.
On the road
In terms of safety features, the Tata Harrier will come equipped with three-point seatbelts with pre-tensioners and seatbelt reminder for the front seats. Further, the SUV will offer six airbags (two as standard), and ISOFIX points for child seats. For better road handling, the Harrier comes with ABS with EBD, ESP with corner stability control, Hill Descent Control, and Brake Assist among other features.

The base-end Harrier XE costs Rs. 12.69 lakh while the mid-level XM and XT trims are priced at Rs. 13.75 lakh and Rs. 14.95 lakh, respectively. The top-end Harrier XZ variant costs Rs. 16.25 lakh. Buyers can choose from five color options- Calisto Copper, Thermisto Gold, Ariel Silver, Telesto Grey, and Orcus White. Notably, bookings for the car are live online for Rs. 30,000.
