Made-in-India iPhones: Tata's production surges 180% to ₹40,000cr
What's the story
Tata Electronics, a Tata Group subsidiary, has ramped up the production of Apple's iPhones by a significant margin in 2024.
The company now contributes to nearly 26% of all iPhones produced in India, a Business Standard report said.
The spike comes after Tata acquired Wistron's iPhone facility in Narsapura, Karnataka for $125 million in October 2023.
Production boost
Narsapura plant's annual production exceeds ₹40,000 crore
The Narsapura facility's annual production saw a massive jump in 2024, surpassing ₹40,000 crore. This marks an impressive 180% increase from last year's numbers.
The increase in production was fueled by Tata Electronics' push to meet Apple's demand and expand its footprint in India.
Growth trajectory
Tata Electronics witnesses significant growth in exports, employment
Along with the production boost, Tata Electronics also recorded an impressive 125% increase in annual exports, totaling ₹31,000 crore in 2024.
The company's headcount also increased by 63%, from 19,000 employees in 2023 to a remarkable 31,000 by the end of last year.
This growth reflects a promising trajectory for the company's operations and its impact on India's economy.
Setback
Fire incident at Tata Electronics' facility
In September 2024, Tata Electronics suffered a major blow when a massive fire erupted at its facility near Hosur in Tamil Nadu's Krishnagiri district.
The blaze caused severe damage to the unit and took firefighters several days to completely douse.
However, despite the incident, the company has since been able to recover and ramp up its manufacturing operations.
