Star's Sanjay Gupta to lead Google India: Details here
In a major development, Google India has appointed Sanjay Gupta, the former head of Star and Disney India, as its Country Manager and Vice President of Sales and Operations. Gupta will take the top spot after months of vacancy following the departure of Rajan Anandan, who left Google to join Sequoia Capital India as its managing director. Here's more about him.
Gupta's work at Star and Disney India
Gupta will be joining Google after his stint at Star and Disney India, where he worked as the company's managing director and contributed towards making it the largest media company in the country. He had even bolstered the footprint of Star's OTT service, Hotstar, and sports business through the acquisition of cricketing properties and the launch of the Pro-Kabaddi League and Indian Super League.
Now, he'll help Google boost internet ecosystem in India
Gupta will join Google India's Mumbai office early next year and work with the teams in Gurugram, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad to guide Google's ongoing effort to boost the internet ecosystem in the country. As part of this, he will be contributing to driving internet adoption among consumers and businesses in India as well as accelerating innovation to tackle different problems.

Prior to Star, Gupta had stints with HUL, Bharti Airtel
Prior to Star and Disney India, Gupta's three-decade-long career included stints at Hindustan Unilever Limited and telecom giant Bharti Airtel, where he held the position of the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). To note, he completed his post graduation from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Kolkata, and engineering from the Delhi College of Engineering in New Delhi.
