Vineeta Singh reveals investors refused check unless her husband joins
Shark Tank India's Vineeta Singh spoke up about her experience with sexism in the business world. In a recent interview with Kareena Kapoor Khan on the show "What Women Want," she revealed that an investor once told her that she wouldn't get funding unless her husband joined her business. Singh's disclosure highlights the ongoing gender biases women entrepreneurs face in securing financial support.
Check conditional on husband joining the business
"I have had various types of sexist encounters starting with the fact that I was told we don't invest in women-founded companies. So only when your husband joins the business, we will give you the check," said Singh.
Singh was once asked to dress differently for job opportunity
The Shark Tank India judge also revealed another incident where she was asked to dress differently for a job opportunity. At that time, she complied because she wanted the job. She mentioned how she called her mother and changed her wardrobe overnight. However, Singh emphasized that if faced with a similar situation today, she would object to such requests.
She also faced criticism for wearing jeans and tight tops
During an internship, Singh was criticized for wearing jeans and tight tops at the brand's factory. "Overnight, I had called my mother from Delhi to Saharanpur with these big baggy shirts, men's shirts, and every single day of my two-month internship I wore those oversized men's shirts because I didn't want that to be the reason I don't get a job," she revealed.
Singh, a thriving entrepreneur, gained fame through Shark Tank
Vineeta Singh, along with her husband Kaushik Mukherjee, co-founded the successful cosmetic company Sugar. She gained immense popularity as one of the well-known 'Sharks' on the hit show Shark Tank India. Besides her, other members of the sharks' panel include, Anupam Mittal, the mind behind Shaadi.com, Aman Gupta of Boat, Namita Thapar of Emcure Pharma, and Peyush Bansal of Lenskart.
