Sensex slips to 60,176.5 points, Nifty drops below 18,000
The benchmark Sensex and Nifty indices witnessed a slump on Tuesday. While the Sensex slipped 0.72% to 60,176.5 points, the Nifty shed 0.53% to 17,957.4 points. The broader market indices were flat, but the midcap stocks showed bullish signals as the Nifty Midcap 50 soared 91.95 points or 1.08% to 8,516.45. Who were the biggest gainers and losers on Tuesday?
As far as the top sector gainers are concerned, NIFTY FMCG, NIFTY AUTO, and NIFTY ENERGY topped the list, edging up 1.23%, 1.21%, and 1.14%, respectively. Furthermore, Adani Ports, NTPC, and Power Grid Corp emerged as the top-performing stocks, edging up 3.32%, 2.98%, and 2.55%, respectively. HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finserv, and HDFC were the biggest losers, shedding 3.11%, 2.34%, and 2.26%, respectively.

Moving on to Asian markets, the Shanghai Composite Index plummeted 0.94% to 3,282.72 points, while the Nikkei too plunged 0.19% to 27,787.98 points. However, the Hang Seng Index climbed 2.1% to 22,502.31 points.
INR rose by 0.25% against the US Dollar
The Indian rupee (INR) appreciated by 0.25% to close at Rs. 75.35 against the US Dollar in the forex trade on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the gold future prices were flat at Rs. 51,500, and the silver prices climbed 0.53% to Rs. 66,648. Coming to the crude oil futures, the prices soared by 1.23% to settle at $103.65 per barrel.
Fuel prices go up in Delhi and Mumbai
In Delhi, diesel price increased by Rs. 0.8 to Rs. 95.91/liter, while the petrol rate edged up by Rs. 0.8 to Rs. 104.65/liter. In Mumbai, the diesel rate climbed by Rs. 0.85 to Rs. 103.9/liter and petrol saw a Rs. 0.84 rise to Rs. 119.65/liter.
