Sensex closes at 53,019 points, Nifty settles below 15,800
On Thursday, the Indian equity benchmarks extended their fall for the second straight session. While the Sensex settled at 53,019 points, the Nifty settled at 15,780 points. The midcap indices were also in a bearish mode as the Nifty Midcap 50 plunged 62.3 points, or 0.85%, to 7,297.65 points. Here are more details on the markets' performance on Thursday.
Who were the biggest winners and losers?
As far as the top-performing sectors of the market are concerned, NIFTY ENERGY, NIFTY BANK, and NIFTY FINANCIAL SERVICE led the way, gaining 0.54%, 0.46%, and 0.42%, respectively. Axis Bank, SBI, and HDFC Life emerged as the biggest stock gainers, adding 1.67%, 1.33%, and 1.32%, respectively. Bajaj Auto, Cipla, and Eicher Motors were among the top stock losers, shedding 4.23%, 3.55%, and 3.28%, respectively.
INR goes down 0.01% against the US Dollar
On Thursday, the Indian rupee (INR) edged 0.01% lower to Rs. 78.98 versus the US Dollar in the forex trade. Meanwhile, the gold futures prices were trading flat at Rs. 50,630. However, the silver prices fell by 211, or 0.36%, to Rs. 58,850. The crude oil futures also fell by $1.44, or 1.3% to $109.65 per barrel.

Moving on to the Asian markets, the Hang Seng rose 0.62% to 21,859.79 points and Nikkei index too edged up 1.54% to 26,393.04 points on Thursday. As far as the US market is concerned, NASDAQ witnessed a decline, edging 0.03% lower to 11,177.89 points.

The world's most popular cryptocurrency Bitcoin is selling at $19,143.72, which is down 4.60% compared to yesterday. Meanwhile, Ethereum is down by 8.81% and is currently selling at $1,030.79. Tether, BNB, and Cardano are trading at $0.999 (flat), $209.06 (5.11% down), and $0.4449 (5.78% down), respectively. Finally, Dogecoin is down by 3.26% as compared to yesterday and is trading at $0.06357.
Fuel prices in Delhi and Mumbai remain unchanged
The fuel prices in Delhi remain unchanged on Thursday, with diesel priced at Rs. 89.66/liter and petrol costing Rs. 96.76/liter. Meanwhile, in Mumbai, diesel costs Rs. 97.26/liter and petrol is priced at Rs. 111.33/liter.
