Sensex climbs to 53,161 points, Nifty settles above 15,800

On Monday, the Indian equity benchmarks extended their winning run for the third straight session. While the Sensex rose 0.82% to 53,161 points, the Nifty jumped 0.84% to 15,832.05 points.
The midcap indices also showed bullish signals with the Nifty Midcap 50 rising by 1.04% to settle at 7,391 points.

Who were the biggest winners and losers ?
As far as the top sector gainers are concerned, NIFTY IT, NIFTY PSE, and NIFTY COMMODITIES topped the list, edging up 2%, 1.85%, and 1.51%, respectively.
On the other hand, the biggest stock gainers were Coal India, ONGC, and Larsen, which climbed 3.12%, 3.02%, and 2.74%, respectively.
Apollo Hospital, Eicher Motors, and HDFC Life lead the negative pack, plummeting 1.14%, 1.03%, and 0.61%, respectively.

Coming to the Asian markets, both the Shanghai Composite Index and Nikkei Index on Monday traded in the red. The former slipped to 3,379.19 points, while the latter went down to 26,871.27 points.
Meanwhile, the Hang Seng Index jumped 2.35% to 22,229.52 points.
In the US, NASDAQ ended on a positive note, surging 375.43 points, or 3.34%, to 11,607.62 points.
