Sensex closes at 54,209 points, Nifty settles below 16,250
The stock market on Wednesday slipped into the red, pausing a two-day upward trend. The Sensex settled at 54,209 points and the Nifty stood at 16,240 points. Who were the biggest gainers and losers?
As far as the top sector gainers are concerned, NIFTY FMCG, NIFTY PHARMA, and NIFTY MNC topped the list, edging up 1.24%, 1.05%, and 0.46%, respectively. The top gaining stocks were TATA Consumer Products, HUL, and UltraTech Cement, adding 3.1%, 2.05% and 2.03%, respectively. Meanwhile, Power Grid Corporation, BPCL, and Tech Mahindra were the top stock losers, shedding 4.53%, 3.23%, and 2.23%, respectively.

The Asian markets witnessed mixed trading on Wednesday. While Hang Seng and Nikkei slipped to 20,644.28 points and 26,911.2 points, respectively, the Shanghai Composite Index soared 0.25% to 3,085.98 points. In the US, NASDAQ witnessed a surge, edging 2.76% higher to 11,984.52 points.
INR sinks 0.02% against the US Dollar
On Wednesday, the Indian rupee (INR) edged 0.02% lower to Rs. 77.58 versus the US dollar in the forex trade. On the other hand, the gold and silver futures prices closed on a flat note, with the former settling at Rs. 50,198 and the latter at Rs. 61,275. The crude oil futures also ended flat at $113.79 per barrel.
Fuel prices in Delhi and Mumbai remain unchanged
The fuel prices in Delhi remain unchanged on Wednesday, with diesel priced at Rs. 96.71/liter and petrol costing Rs. 105.45/liter. Meanwhile, in Mumbai, diesel costs Rs. 104.75/ liter and petrol is priced at Rs. 120.5/liter.
