Sensex closes at 54,365 points, Nifty settles below 16,250
The stock market on Tuesday ended on a sluggish note, extending the fall for a third straight session in volatile trade. Sensex settled at 54,364.85 points and the Nifty stood at 16,240.05 points. The midcap stocks also witnessed a bearish run with the Nifty Midcap 50 shedding 135.3 points to end at 7,533.65. Here's all you need to know about Tuesday's market report.
Who were the biggest gainers and losers?
As far as the top-performing sectors are concerned, NIFTY PVT BANK, NIFTY BANK, and NIFTY FINANCIAL SERVICE led the way, gaining 0.75%, 0.6%, and 0.54%, respectively. The top stock gainers were HUL, Asian Paints, and Eicher Motors, which climbed 2.95%, 2.61%, and 2.49%, respectively. Coal India, Tata Steel, and ONGC emerged as the biggest losers, dropping 7.13%, 6.71%, and 6.31%, respectively.

Coming to Asian markets, Hang Seng and Nikkei declined by 1.84% and 0.58% to 19,633.69 points and 26,167.1 points, respectively. However, the Shanghai Composite Index rose 1.06% to 3,035.84 points. In the US, NASDAQ ended in the red, falling 521.41 points to 11,623.25 points.
INR up by 0.21% against the US Dollar
The Indian rupee (INR) appreciated by 0.21% to close at Rs. 77.3 against the US Dollar in the forex trade on Tuesday. The gold futures witnessed little movement, ending flat at Rs. 50,894 while the silver futures fell down by 0.31% to Rs. 61,308. Also, the crude oil futures fell by $1.68, or 1.63% to $101.54 per barrel.
Fuel prices in Delhi and Mumbai remain unchanged
The fuel prices in Delhi remained unchanged on Tuesday, with diesel priced at Rs. 96.71/liter, and petrol costing Rs. 105.45/liter. Meanwhile, in Mumbai, diesel costs Rs. 104.75/liter and petrol is priced at Rs. 120.5/liter.
