Sensex losses over 500 points, Nifty barely holds 17,800 mark
On Wednesday, the benchmark Sensex and Nifty indices were on a downward trend. While the Sensex plunged 0.95% to 59,610.41 points, the Nifty fell 0.84% to 17,807.65 points. Who were the biggest gainers and losers on Wednesday?
As far as the top sector gainers are concerned, NIFTY PSU BANK, NIFTY PSE, and NIFTY METAL topped the list, edging up 1.95%, 1.61%, and 1.33%, respectively. On the other hand, the biggest stock gainers were Coal India, IOC, and NTPC, which climbed 3.17%, 2.77%, and 2.62%, respectively. HDFC Bank, HDFC, and HDFC Life were biggest losers, dropping 3.57%, 3.34%, and 2.42%, respectively.

Moving on to Asian markets, the Hang Seng Index rose 1.87% to 22,080.52 points and the Nikkei index too edged up 1.58% to 27,350.3 points on Wednesday. As far as the US market is concerned, NASDAQ witnessed a decline, edging 2.26% lower to 14,204.17 points.
INR slips 0.58% against the US Dollar
The Indian rupee (INR) slipped 0.58% to settle at Rs. 75.76 against the US Dollar in the forex trade on Wednesday. Also, the gold futures prices surged by or 0.65% to Rs. 51,703, while the silver futures settled flat at Rs. 66,345. Meanwhile, crude oil future prices surged by $0.86 or 0.83% to $103.62 per barrel.
Fuel prices in Delhi and Mumbai see an uptick
In Delhi, diesel price rose by Rs. 0.8 to Rs. 96.71/liter and petrol increased by Rs. 0.8 to Rs. 105.45/liter. In Mumbai, the diesel rate climbed by Rs. 0.85 to Rs. 104.75/liter and petrol saw a Rs. 0.85 rise to Rs. 120.5/liter.
