Sensex gains 1,200 points, Nifty settles near 22,970 mark
On Thursday, the stock market had a bearish opening but the benchmark Sensex and Nifty indices witnessed a surge. The Sensex jumped 1.61% to 75,418.04 points, while the Nifty climbed 1.64% to 22,967.65 points. The midcap indices also edged up with the Nifty Midcap 50 gaining 0.3%, to settle at 14,662.05 points. Who were the biggest gainers and losers?
On Thursday, NIFTY PSU BANK, NIFTY BANK, and NIFTY PVT BANK emerged as the top-performing sectors, rising 1.66%, 1.59%, and 1.52%, respectively. The biggest stock gainers were Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports, and Larsen, which climbed 7.84%, 4.73%, and 3.6%, respectively. Sun Pharma, Power Grid Corporation of India, and Hindalco emerged as the biggest losers, dropping 2.87%, 1.8%, and 1.13%, respectively.

In the Asian markets, the Shanghai Composite Index plunged 1.35% to 3,116.39 points, while the Hang Seng Index declined 1.73% to 18,868.71 points. The Nikkei index witnessed a rise of 1.24%, closing at 39,103.22 points. In the US market, NASDAQ shed 0.18% to 16,801.54 points.
INR goes up 0.05% against US Dollar
The Indian Rupee (INR) on Thursday strengthened 0.05% to settle at ₹83.28 against the US Dollar in the forex trade. Meanwhile, both gold and silver futures slipped, with the prices of gold and silver dropping to ₹72,370 and ₹91,310, respectively. Coming to the crude oil futures, the prices soared 0.35% to settle at $78.23 per barrel.
Fuel prices in Delhi and Mumbai
Fuel prices in India remained stable on Thursday. In Delhi, diesel costs ₹87.62 per liter, while petrol is priced at ₹94.72 per liter. In Mumbai, diesel is available at ₹92.15 per liter and petrol at ₹104.21 per liter.
