Sensex closes at 72,987 points, Nifty settles at 22,200 mark
The stock market closed on a negative note on Wednesday. While the Sensex tumbled 0.16% to settle at 72,987.03 points, the Nifty fell 0.07% to end at 22,200.55 points. Who were the biggest gainers and losers?
On Wednesday, NIFTY PSE, NIFTY PSU BANK, and NIFTY ENERGY emerged as the top-performing sectors, rising 1.73%, 1.4%, and 1.14%, respectively. On the other hand, the biggest stock gainers were Coal India, Cipla, and BPCL, which climbed 4.19%, 3.55%, and 3.42%, respectively. Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, and Asian Paints emerged as the most losing stocks, falling 1.93%, 1.91%, and 1.85%, respectively.

Asian markets witnessed a poor run on Wednesday. While the Shanghai Composite Index slipped to 3,119.9 points, Hang Seng plunged to 19,073.71 points, and Nikkei dropped to 38,385.73 points. In the US, NASDAQ traded in the green, advancing 122.94 points, or 0.75%, to 16,511.18 points.
INR goes up 0.04% against the US Dollar
The Indian Rupee (INR) on Wednesday strengthened 0.04% to settle at ₹83.49 against the US Dollar in the forex trade. The prices of both gold and silver futures witnessed a surge. While the former soared 0.52% to ₹72,676, the latter jumped 0.36% to ₹85,727. Coming to the crude oil futures, the prices soared 0.29% to settle at $78.22 per barrel.
Fuel prices in Delhi and Mumbai
Fuel prices in Delhi remain same on Wednesday, with diesel priced at ₹87.66 per liter, and petrol at ₹94.76 per liter. Meanwhile, in Mumbai, diesel costs ₹92.13 per liter, and petrol is priced at ₹104.19 per liter.
