Sensex gains 260 points, Nifty settles above 22,050 mark
On Friday, the benchmark Sensex and Nifty indices saw some gains after trading in the red for several sessions. While the Sensex rose 0.36% to 72,664.47 points, the Nifty jumped 0.44% to 22,055.2 points. The midcap indices showed bullish signals with the Nifty Midcap 50 rising 1.11% to 13,909.9 points. Who were the biggest gainers and losers?
As far as the top-performing sectors of the market are concerned, NIFTY ENERGY, NIFTY METAL, and NIFTY PSE led the way, gaining 1.62%, 1.52%, and 1.46%, respectively. The top-gaining stocks were BPCL, NTPC, and Power Grid Corporation of India, adding 4.37%, 2.6%, and 2.45%, respectively. Cipla, TCS, and Kotak Mahindra emerged as the most losing stocks, falling 1.68%, 1.68%, and 1.16%, respectively.

Coming to the Asian markets, both Shanghai Composite Index and Nikkei traded in red, slipping to 3,154.55 points and 38,229.11 points, respectively. Meanwhile, the Hang Seng Index jumped 2.25% to 18,963.68 points. In the US market, NASDAQ edged 0.27% higher to 16,346.26 points.
INR goes up 0.04% against US dollar
On Friday, the Indian rupee (INR) gained 0.04% to ₹83.49 versus the US dollar in the forex trade. The prices of both gold and silver futures witnessed a surge. While the former soared 1.5% to ₹72,712, the latter jumped 1.34% to ₹85,630. Coming to the crude oil futures, the prices increased 0.92% to settle at $79.85 per barrel.
Fuel prices in Delhi and Mumbai
Fuel prices remained unchanged on Firday. In Delhi, diesel costs ₹87.66 per liter and petrol is priced at ₹94.76 per liter. Meanwhile, in Mumbai, diesel and petrol are selling at ₹92.13 per liter and ₹104.19 per liter, respectively.
