Sensex settles above 75,000 mark, Nifty closes at all-time high
The stock market had a bearish opening on Wednesday, but the benchmark Sensex and Nifty indices witnessed a surge. Sensex jumped 0.47% to 75,038.15 points, while Nifty climbed 0.49% to 22,753.8 points. Who were the biggest winners and losers?
The winning sectors in the stock market were NIFTY MEDIA, NIFTY PSU BANK, and NIFTY PSE, which rose 1.77%, 1.5%, and 1.42%, respectively. The top stock gainers were Coal India, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and Kotak Mahindra, which climbed 3.75%, 3.24%, and 2.55%, respectively. HDFC Life, Cipla, and Divis Labs emerged as the most losing stocks, falling 1.96%, 1.89%, and 1.73%, respectively.

Moving on to Asian markets, the Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.7% to 3,027.33 points, while the Nikkei dropped 0.48% to 39,581.81 points. However, the Hang Seng Index climbed 1.82% to 17,139.17 points. In the US market, NASDAQ advanced 0.32% to 16,306.64 points.
INR goes up 0.16% against the US dollar
The Indian rupee (INR) on Wednesday strengthened 0.16% to settle at ₹83.19 against the US dollar in the forex trade. Gold futures prices largely traded flat, ending at ₹71,399. However, the silver futures soared or 0.28% to ₹82,682. Crude oil futures ended flat at $85.52 per barrel.
No change in fuel prices
Fuel prices remained steady on Wednesday. In Delhi, diesel is priced at ₹87.66 per liter and petrol at ₹94.76 per liter. In Mumbai, diesel and petrol cost ₹92.13 per liter and ₹104.19 per liter, respectively.
