Sam Altman denies sister's sexual abuse allegations, files defamation suit
What's the story
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has denied his sister Ann Altman's allegations that he sexually abused her for almost a decade. He has also filed a defamation lawsuit against her.
In a court filing yesterday, Sam's legal team said Ann's "false statements" have tarnished his reputation and caused him emotional pain.
They further alleged Ann is using this lawsuit to pressure him into acceding to her demands for unrestricted financial support.
Accusations
Allegations and previous denials
In January, Ann Altman accused her brother of abuse and manipulation during their childhood in Missouri from the late 1990s to early 2000s.
She alleged the abuse began when she was three years old, with the last incident taking place when he was an adult but she was still a minor.
In response to the allegations, Sam issued a statement on behalf of himself, his mother, and his brothers, calling the claims "utterly untrue."
Legal response
Ann Altman's attorney responds to Sam's counterclaims
Meanwhile, Ann's attorney Ryan Mahoney dismissed Sam's counterclaims as "as predictable as they are unfortunate."
He expressed confidence in his client's position, adding that her "filings tell the real story and we look forward to seeking justice on her behalf."
The case is officially titled Altman v. Altman, 25-cv-00017, and is being heard at the US District Court, Eastern District of Missouri (St. Louis).
