Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350X, 500X to launch on February 28
Royal Enfield is all set to launch two models of its iconic Thunderbird, 350X and 500X, on February 28. Meant for urban cruising, the new versions are fitted with cosmetic and mechanical upgrades for a more urbane look and efficient street handling. Both the Thunderbirds will be available in different colors - 500X in yellow, blue and 350X in white, red. Here's more.
What are the changes?
For better control and sporty finish, the handlebar isn't as swept-back as the original. The new Thunderbirds will have eight-spoke alloy wheels, not the classic wire-spokes, a single seat and trendy rear grab-rails. The lower body will have a matte black look and the engine a dual tone. Moreover, only fuel tanks will get new colors. The rest of the bike's body remains unchanged.
What stays the same?
The base design, the fuel tank and the engines haven't been altered. The 350cc and 500cc thumpers are expected to deliver the usual 28Nm and 41.3Nm of peak power. Several other parts such as the 41mm front forks, the 280mm front-240mm rear disc brakes and gar-charged rear suspension have also been retained from the original models.
New models likely to cost Rs. 5,000 more than originals
Though the launch details haven't been disclosed yet, Thunderbird 350X and 500X are likely to cost about Rs. 5,000 more than the originals, which are currently priced between Rs. 1.48 lakh (for 350) and Rs. 1.90 lakh (for 500).
