Reliance JioFiber: Launch, speeds, tariffs, and more
After creating shockwaves in the mobile internet segment, Reliance Jio is poised to bring the same disruption into the broadband space. It is aggressively testing its JioFiber broadband service in 10 cities including Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Ahmedabad, Jamnagar, Surat, and Vadodara. JioFiber is expected to be launched by March-end. Reports suggest that the speed would go upto 1 Gbps, at minimal prices. Here's all about it.
JioFiber beta users to enjoy 100GB of free data monthly
Reliance Jio will initially offer the JioFiber Preview Offer to beta users in the cities where it is testing. These beta users would avail 100GB of free data at 100Mbps speed every month. Although Jio has promised three months of free services, it's expected that it would extend the free service for beta users, till its pan-India commercial launch.
JioFiber rumored to offer generous plans
Once JioFiber launches commercially, it's expected to bring in generous data plans in a bid to drag down prices in the broadband segment, much like its tactics in the mobile internet segment. According to the plans leaked earlier, JioFiber will offer a basic plan of Rs. 500 for 600GB data, and a premium plan of Rs. 2,000 for 1,000GB data at 100Mbps speed.
Generous data plans apart, JioFiber will offer expansive services
It is also rumored that Reliance will bundle broadband and internet TV services. Essentially, this will save the end-user from separately having to pay for landline, broadband, and TV services. Further, it will offer fixed voice, media sharing, live TV, and other services under one umbrella. This offering, like Jio's 4G offerings, is also expected to include access to Jio's content and app portfolio.
JioFiber is expected to drag down broadband service prices
Operators like Airtel Broadband, ACT Fiber, BSNL, and MTNL are already bracing for JioFiber's entry into the broadband market. These operators have been dropping rates, providing higher speed caps, and offering significantly discounted bi-annual or annual payment plans to lock customers in. Therefore, it logically follows that JioFiber's entry will intensify the price wars, and customers stand to benefit from this hyper competition.
