Reliance may launch Jio GigaFiber in India on August 12
After a stellar run with its mobile services, Mukesh Ambani-led Jio'>Reliance Jio is looking to disrupt the broadband market in India. The company is all set to commercially launch its broadband services on August 12 at Reliance Industries' annual general meeting, according to The Hindu. Dubbed as Jio GigaFiber, the service will include broadband, entertainment, and smart home solutions. Here's more.
Beta trials of JioGigaFiber services have been successful: Ambani
To recall, Reliance had announced Jio GigaFiber last year, and since then the company had been laying the groundwork for the pan India launch of the service. Just recently, Ambani said that the "beta trials of JioGigaFiber services have been very successful and the entire bouquet of smart home solutions would soon be rolled out to targeted 50 million households and beyond."
So, what is Jio GigaFiber?
Jio GigaFiber is an end-to-end FTTH broadband service that promises to offer a download speed of upto 1Gbps and 100Mbps upload speed. It isn't just a standalone broadband service as it looks to encompass an all-in-one solution for home broadband, IPTV, landline, and smart home solutions. Additionally, it will also allow you to connect VR headsets and stream content in 4K resolution.
Jio GigaFiber may initially be rolled out in 1,100 cities
Notably, Reliance had previously announced that Jio GigaFiber will be first launched in 1,100 cities. However, in the first phase, the roll-out is expected to happen in 29 Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities. These cities include Agra, Bengaluru, Chennai, Chandigarh, Ranchi, Patna, Allahabad, Raipur, Nagpur, Ghaziabad, Pune, Indore, Thane, Bhopal, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Madurai, Nashik, and Guwahati among others.
Jio GigaFiber: Pricing and plans
Jio GigaFiber has been available for free under the preview offer. Users can take a connection by paying a refundable amount of Rs. 4,500 for the high-end 5GHz router and Rs. 2,500 for the 2.4GHz router. As part of the preview plan, the company is offering upto 100Mbps plans with 100GB FUP limit and additional 40GB data via free sachet recharges available on Jio.com.
Jio is also testing a triple play plan
Meanwhile, Jio is also testing a triple play plan wherein it is offering 100GB of high-speed data, unlimited voice calling, and a complimentary subscription to Jio Home TV at a starting price of Rs. 600/month. However, this plan is currently available for Reliance's employees only.
