Reliance Jio Fiber launches today: All you need to know
Reliance Jio is all set to commercially launch Jio Fiber, its fiber-to-the-home broadband service, today. Last month, at the company's AGM, Mukesh Ambani had announced details about Jio Fiber, its plans, pricing, and related services. He also noted that the service will be offered to as many as 3.5 crore residences and businesses across 1,600 towns during the initial roll-out. Here's all about it.
Jio Fiber to offer upto 1Gbps internet speed
As far as plans are concerned, it will cost Rs. 700/month for the entry-level plan which will offer 100Mbps of speed. The top-end plan with 1Gbps speed and access to Jio HomeTV and IoT products will cost Rs. 10,000/month. The company has also announced a 'Jio Forever Annual Plan' wherein consumers will get an HD/4K LED TV and a 4K set-top box for free.
Interestingly, Jio has also announced a First-Day-First-Show service
Most interestingly, the company has announced a Jio First-Day-First-Show service that will allow premium Jio Fiber users to watch the latest movies the same day when they get released on big screens. This potentially disruptive service is set to launch in the middle of 2020.
The service will also come bundled with Jio Home Phone
Jio Fiber plans will also come bundled with a Jio Home Phone landline service that will let users make unlimited free voice calls to any operator (fixed line or mobile) in India. For international calling, the tariffs are said to be one-fifth to one-tenth of existing industry rates. The telco will also offer unlimited calls to the US and Canada at just Rs. 500/month.
Jio Postpaid Plus: Postpaid services with a platinum-grade experience
Further, Jio Fiber customers will also get access to Jio Postpaid Plus plans which are touted to provide a "platinum-grade" experience. The service will include "unprecedented plans," affordable international roaming, and phone upgrade option at "preferential rates". It'll also include a priority SIM-setup home service.
Jio HomeTV, smart Jio set-top box, and gaming service
Jio Fiber will also power Jio HomeTV, the company's home entertainment solution. The service will be available via a smart set-top box which supports Local Cable Operators. It will support features such as video calling (via external camera), on-demand services, and Mixed Reality experiences. The STB will also enable console-like multiplayer gaming with 4K resolution, zero-latency experience, built-in graphics, and support for gaming controllers.
Jio MR and HoloBoard MR headset
Separately, Jio has invested in start-up Tesseract to bring MR experiences in online shopping, education, and entertainment through Jio Fiber's network. The Jio Cinema app will also offer theater-like experiences via Jio HoloBoard headsets that will launch in the future at an "extremely affordable price".
