Reliance Jio to offer fixed line digital service

What's the story

Reliance Jio has partnered with Team F1 to roll out a fixed line digital service via an advanced home gateway solution. The partnership will focus on developing 'connected-home experiences' for television, telephone, gaming and other forms of media. Reliance and Team F1 have been partners for years: F1 provides Jio with solutions to power their devices across several OEMs.

Jio's entry led to a significant growth in the number of internet users in India. Given increasing IP-connected devices and proliferation of rich-content, applications such as media streaming, video-on-demand, security surveillance, online gaming, etc will be supported by Jio deployed devices.

Team F1, a subsidiary of subsidiary of D-Link, is one of the most renowned names in security software. Developing and using Home Gateway Systems suffer from a key challenge of security and by roping in Team F1, Reliance Jio will be able to offer a next generation of residential gateways, which could provide lighting, security, storage, sharing of media, home automation and more.

Jio's impact on telecom space so far

Launched in September, Jio has completely changed the Indian telecom landscape. Mukesh Ambani's massive investment of $20-25 billion and unprecedented offering of free voice and data for six months to new subscribers have already prompted the Idea-Vodafone, RCom-Aircel mergers. Last week, Airtel had announced its plans to acquire Telenor. Additionally, since Jio's launch, all major telecom players have slashed their prices several times.
