Realme smartphones now available via Reliance Digital, My Jio stores
Realme, formerly an OPPO-subsidiary, has partnered with Reliance Digital and My Jio retail stores to sell its smartphones. The move is seen as an attempt by the Chinese smartphone manufacturer, which has so far remained online, to increase more retail touch points and boost sales in tier 2 and 3 cities. Here's more on this development.
Realme looks on encash on the Diwali festive season
"In the first phase of the partnership, Realme smartphones will be available at more than 130 cities across 600 Reliance Digital & My Jio stores starting from this Diwali for the customers," Realme said in a statement.
Realme may eventually have its own brand retail stores
"We are looking for retail partners that are aggressive in the market. Initially, our focus is to make phones available in top 10 metro cities, and then tier 2 cities under phase two of expansion," said Madhav Sheth, CEO, Realme India. He added that Realme will start executing its retail strategy starting January 2019 while also hinting at the possibility of branded retail stores.
Why this could be a game-changer move?
Realme is known to offer modern-looking, feature-packed smartphones at affordable prices in the budget and mid-range segment. Interestingly, Realme's competitor Xiaomi also offers cost-value products and enjoys a strong online and offline presence in India. In order to survive, it will be crucial how Realme expands in the offline space considering it just has 4 models in its portfolio and no solid retail experience.
