Petrol, diesel prices soar for second day, amid Karnataka results
On Tuesday, petrol prices in the national capital touched Rs. 74.95 per litre. Notably, the petrol prices had hit Rs. 76.06 per litre in September 2013. Meanwhile, diesel prices, which have been soaring ever since, reached a record high mark across all major cities in the country. This is the second soar in prices since Monday. Here are the details.
Petrol prices hit multi-year highs across metropoles in India
Prices soared for the second consecutive day after the Indian Oil Corp (IOC) decided to resume its dynamic pricing system from Monday, following a 19-day halt. The national capital apart, petrol prices in other cities like Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai also hit multi-year highs at Rs. 77.65, Rs. 82.79, and Rs. 77.77 respectively.
Last comparable petrol price rises happened years back
The previous comparable petrol price highs in Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai were Rs. 78.03 (August 2014), Rs. 83.62 (September 2013), and Rs. 79.55 (September 2013) respectively.
Diesel prices soar amid global rise in transport fuel costs
Meanwhile, diesel prices in the cities of Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai rose to Rs. 66.36, Rs. 68.90, Rs. 70.66 and Rs. 70.02 respectively. This rise in the cost of transport fuels comes amid a sustained global rise in crude oil prices. The brent crude oil is currently priced at around $78 per barrel.
