OPPO's Realme is launching a sub-brand called 'Narzo'
In a bid to expand its footprint, Realme, the Chinese smartphone company owned by OPPO, has announced a new sub-brand called 'Narzo'. Under the latest offering, the firm will launch a series of power-packed smartphones, targeted particularly at the 'Gen Z' of India. However, as of now, there is not much information available about the upcoming line-up.
Realme's teaser for the 'Narzo' line-up
Realme teased the word 'Narzo' on Wednesday, triggering widespread speculations over what it could really mean. Many predicted the company might launch a clothing line, but a day later, Realme confirmed that Narzo is an upcoming smartphone series, just like its existing C, X, and U families. It also shared a full Narzo trailer, making the sub-brand and its logo official.
No word on what Narzo phones would look like
The trailer confirmed the upcoming series, but it didn't say much about what the phones would look like. A dedicated page set up for the new portfolio highlights words like 'Bold', 'Unique', 'Power', and 'Gen Z', which implies that the line-up would be targeted at youth, with focus on elements like design, performance, and battery life.
Match for Xiaomi's Redmi, Poco family?
While we cannot be sure, there is a good chance that the new Narzo family would be positioned to compete against Xiaomi-backed Redmi and POCO brands. The folks at 91mobiles cited a source to note that the first Narzo-branded phone would be launched in two variants, but they didn't reveal the specifications. We expect to learn more as the phone's official launch nears.
Realme has been dominating the budget segment
Since its entry into the Indian market, Realme has grown significantly, and taken on the likes of budget players like Xiaomi and Samsung. The company has launched plenty of devices lately, including a 5G phone that packs ISRO's NavIC navigation system. It is the first tech company to have achieved this feat and is now looking to grow further up with the Narzo sub-brand.
