NSE to conduct a mock trading session today
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has decided to hold a mock trading session today from 12:00pm. According to a circular released by the exchange, this session will take place on its Disaster Recovery site. This step is part of NSE's regular testing and preparedness measures, aimed at ensuring smooth trading operations even during potential disruptions.
Contingency test and live trading sessions
There's a mock trading session happening today from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. The NSE has asked its members to plan their activities accordingly for this event. After the mock session, live trading will kick off at the same disaster recovery spot from September 30 to October 3. These sessions will follow the usual market hours and are part of the exchange's backup plan.
Previous special live trading sessions
This isn't the NSE's first rodeo with such events. Earlier this year, they held two special live trading sessions. The first one was on March 2, which wrapped up at a record closing level. The second one on May 18, however, saw a pretty dull performance from the indices. These sessions are mainly to check how well the exchange can handle surprise situations during normal trading hours.
NSE's new settlement cycle
In March 2024, the NSE announced a new settlement cycle called T+0. This system lets you wrap up transactions on the very same day they're done. So, you get your shares in your account, and the seller gets their money—all within the same trading day. The T+0 system works alongside the traditional T+1 settlement model, which handles transactions the next day.
