Samsung's new ad mocks Apple; tells iPhone-users to "grow up"!
Following Apple iPhoneX's official release, Samsung has come up with a new ad campaign for its latest Galaxy Note 8 phablet. In the ad, "Samsung Galaxy: Growing Up," Samsung makes fun of Apple's entire decade-long iPhone line. While mocking several iPhone features and changes, it shows a lifelong iPhone user finally making the switch to Note 8. What should be your choice, though?
iPhone purchases over the course of 10 years
Samsung's new ad features a young man and tracks all of his iPhone purchases from 2007. The one-minute video begins in 2007, showing a long line outside the Apple Store during the original iPhone launch and the main character getting the first iPhone. In the subsequent years, the ad shows the various issues he faces with his iPhones over the decade.
Lack of storage space and stylus support
The protagoniSt's problems begin in 2010, when his iPhone 3GS cannot take pictures because of low storage. In 2013, he meets a girl, and while exchanging numbers, he notes her Galaxy Note 3 quickly adds contacts as it supports a stylus while his iPhone 5 does not. In 2015, he is shown standing in a long queue while it is raining, for iPhone 6.
iPhone mocked for not being "water resistant"
The ad then makes fun of the Apple iPhone for not being water resistant. In 2016, the young man and his girlfriend fall into water. While her Samsung Galaxy device works fine, he is shown throwing his iPhone (presumably iPhone 6) into a bowl of rice. Samsung devices have offered water resistance since Galaxy S5, which was released in 2014.
No headphone port or wireless charging support
In 2017, the main character upgrades to iPhone 7. Disappointed to see that the headphone jack is missing, he hopelessly stares at the headphone-adapter. He is then shown connecting many adapters to watch videos and charge his phone while his girlfriend's Samsung Galaxy device charges wirelessly. However, leaks about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S9 suggest the device would ditch the headphone jack, too.
Lifelong iPhone user switches to Samsung Galaxy
Finally, the iPhone user puts his device away in a drawer and decides to purchase Samsung Galaxy Note 8. He looks happy after getting the Galaxy device. He then sees people waiting in queue for the iPhone X. A man with a haircut resembling iPhone X's notch stares at the main character as he walks away, highlighting that he has "upgraded to Galaxy". Burn!
