RBI to issue new Rs. 100 notes soon, details here
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to issue new Rs. 100 notes as a part of the new Mahatma Gandhi series. Their base color will be lavender and they will be smaller. They will have a motif of 'RANI KI VAV' on the backside to show the country's rich heritage. The dimensions of the banknote will be 66 mm × 142 mm.
New notes won't impact circulation of existing ones: Report
Although the new notes will be smaller than the existing ones, they will be bigger than the new Rs. 10 notes, media reports suggested. Reportedly, these new notes will be issued from August or September. Several reports also hinted that circulation of the existing Rs. 100 notes won't be affected with the news notes.
Indigenous ink being used to print new notes
The printing of these notes has started in the printing press in Dewas using indigenous ink. Notably, a foreign ink was used to print Rs. 2,000 notes in the beginning but now the press has managed to produce the same ink in India. The new Rs. 100 notes will also have several micro-security features which will be visible under ultraviolet light
Since demonetization, many new currency notes were issued by RBI
The Narendra Modi led NDA government announced demonetization of Rs. 1000 and Rs. 500 notes on November 8, 2016. Back then, new notes of Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 500 were introduced. Recently, the RBI issued new notes of Rs. 200, Rs. 50 and Rs. 10.
