Netflix may bring subscription plans for 3, 6, 12 months
Netflix sees India as one of its biggest markets and is doing everything at hand to draw more and more users from the country. The company recently launched a new Rs. 199 'mobile' plan, and now, to make an even better package, it is testing a long-term subscription model. Here's all you need to know about it.
Long-term plans being tested with select users
Just recently, select Netflix users started seeing three long-term variants of the 'premium subscription' plan that currently comes at Rs. 799 per month. In this, the company offered the same deal in 3-month, 6-month, and year-long payment packages - each one offering an additional discount on the regular price that a user currently has to pay for three, six, and twelve months.
How much these plans cost?
The three-month 'premium plan' comes at Rs. 1,919, which is a 20% discount over the regular Rs. 2,397. Meanwhile, the six-month and year-long plans come with an even more tempting 30% and 50% discount at Rs. 3,359 and Rs. 4,799, respectively. So, if one goes for annual payment at once, they'd get the top-end Netflix plan at half the price.
Netflix confirmed testing but no word on wider availability
Netflix confirmed the testing of these plans but didn't clarify when or if it would be rolled out widely. "We believe that our members may value the flexibility that comes from being able to pay for a few months at once," a company spokesperson told Gadgets360. "As always this is a test and we will introduce it more broadly if people find it useful."
Solution to stay ahead of the competition in India
The move from Netflix comes as part of an effort to lure more users and stay ahead of other growing OTT players, including Hotstar, Prime Video, and ZEE5. And, as this is the first time the company is testing a model like this in India, it remains unclear when it would launch or if the same would be replicated for other cheaper plans too.
