Jio Fiber regains top rank in Netflix ISP Index
Reliance's FTTH service, Jio Fiber, has beaten the likes of Airtel Xstream Fiber, Spectra, and 7 Star Digital to regain the top spot in Netflix's ISP Speed Index. In the month of January, the broadband service provided the highest average speed of 3.63Mbps to its customers when they viewed Netflix. Here's how other companies performed.
What is Netflix ISP Speed Index?
According to streaming giant Netflix, the ISP Speed Index "is a measure of prime time Netflix performance on particular ISPs (internet service providers) around the globe, and not a measure of overall performance for other services/data that may travel across the specific ISP network."
7 Star Digital took the second spot
With an average speed of 3.62Mbps, Mumbai-based 7 Star Digital broadband service took the second spot on Netflix's ISP Speed Index. The third rank was occupied by Spectra which offered an average broadband speed of 3.50Mbps in the month of January. In the same period, Airtel offered an average speed of 3.48Mbps to settle for the fourth place.
Here's how the top rankers performed as per previous data
In comparison to the last recorded data, Reliance's Jio Fiber saw a slight improvement from 3.60Mbps to 3.63Mbps in January. In the same period, 7 Star Digital recorded an average speed drop of 0.05Mbps when compared to its previous average speed of 3.67Mbps.
BSNL and MTNL emerged as the worst performers
Amongst the 16 internet service providers listed in the Netflix ISP Speed Index, state-owned BSNL and MTNL took the third last and second last spots, respectively. The former recorded 2.50Mbps average speed in January 2020 while the latter managed 2.24Mbps. The last rank was taken by Tata Communications which offered an average broadband speed of 1.88Mbps to its Netflix viewers.
