MrBeast facing lawsuit from 5 female contestants of Beast Games
Jimmy Donaldson, a.k.a. MrBeast, is facing a major legal challenge, per BBC. A group of five female contestants from his upcoming Prime Video show Beast Games have filed a 54-page lawsuit against his production company MrB2024 and Amazon in Los Angeles. The reality show, featuring 1,000 contestants competing for a $5 million prize, is now facing significant jeopardy. The lawsuit alleges the women "particularly and collectively suffered" in an environment that "systematically fostered a culture of misogyny and sexism."
Allegations of poor treatment and sexual harassment
The lawsuit also includes allegations of poor treatment, with participants claiming they were "underfed and overtired." It is alleged that meals were provided "sporadically and sparsely," endangering the health and welfare of the contestants. Additionally, the defendants are accused of fostering a culture and pattern of sexual harassment, including a hostile work environment. These allegations have cast a shadow over MrBeast's reputation as one of the internet's most likable figures.
Previous allegations and hospitalizations
In August, The New York Times reported several hospitalizations on the set of Beast Games. One participant claimed they had gone over 20 hours without being fed. There were also complaints about not receiving medication on time. These allegations add to the growing list of concerns surrounding the treatment of contestants on MrBeast's show.
The Ava Kris Tyson controversy
MrBeast has faced his share of controversies this year but has emerged unscathed each time. In July, the 26-year-old YouTuber revealed he'd hired investigators after his former co-host Ava Kris Tyson was accused of grooming a teenager. While Ava denied the allegations, she apologized for "unacceptable" past behavior. MrBeast later announced on X that he swiftly removed Ava from the company, channel, and any association with his brand, stating, "I do not condone or support any inappropriate actions."
MrBeast's philanthropy and business ventures
Despite the controversy, MrBeast's empire continues to expand. He currently as over 319 million subscribers on YouTube. His philanthropic efforts have included building wells in Africa and funding surgeries for individuals with impaired sight and hearing. However, these initiatives have also faced criticism for alleged exploitation. On the business front, MrBeast recently announced a collaboration with KSI and Logan Paul on a new food line aimed at rivaling Lunchables — owned by Kraft Heinz.
YouTube success continues to grow amid setbacks
MrBeast's YouTube channel is one of the largest globally, with his most-viewed video recreating Squid Game in real life for a $456,000 prize. His philanthropic work extends to giving away houses, cash, and cars. According to his website, he has provided over 25 million meals to those in need worldwide. Despite the ongoing lawsuit, MrBeast's online influence continues to grow with an increase of five million subscribers in just the past month.
