Microsoft is firing people, rumours have now been confirmed
Putting rumors to rest, tech giant Microsoft confirmed that it will, indeed, let go of several employees. The extent of these layoffs is expected to run in thousands. Microsoft, till now, has not divulged any proper count. Here's all about it.
Part of doing business
In an almost cryptic reply, the tech behemoth said it is bringing about changes to serve its customers and partners better. It has started notifying employees whose jobs are in peril and the entire exercise was part of its regular drill. It said that the firm evaluates itself on a regular basis and takes such strategic decision from time to time.
The future is in the cloud
Reportedly, Microsoft's layoff spree stems from the giant's push to conquer the cloud business. Microsoft Azure sales have meteorically grown 93% in the last quarter. It's a sign that it'll now pivot itself as a major provider in this area, battling it out with Amazon for market space. According to CNBC, Microsoft currently employs 71,000 people in the US and 121,000 across the world.
