Mercedes-Benz V-Class MPV launched in India at Rs. 68.40 lakh
German car maker Mercedes-Benz has launched its brand new luxury V-Class Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) in India at a starting price of Rs. 68.40 lakh (ex-showroom). The V-Class, available in 7-seater Expression and 6-seater Exclusive variants, has arrived in the country as a completely built unit (CBU) imported from Spain. Here's our roundup of the vehicle.
Mercedes-Benz V-Class: At a glance
As the company likes to call it, this model is really a "spacious sedan". The front looks like any other Mercedes-Benz sedan with the iconic chromed grille and three-pointed star insignia and L-shaped LED headlamps while the hood flattens at the rear end. In India, Mercedes-Benz has introduced the long wheelbase Exclusive model (5,140 mm) and extra-long (5,370 mm) Expression variant.
Inside the cabin
The iconic exteriors are matched with expressive interiors comprising premium upholstery, swivel seats in the second row (Exclusive model), free-standing media display, and ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof as well as 15-speaker Burmester surround sound system as optional features. Further, the MPV offers Mercedes COMAND infotainment system, multi-functional steering wheel, twin-pod instrument cluster, active parking assist, 360-degree cameras six-airbags, and attention assist as standard features.
Under the hood: Engine and power
In India, the Mercedes-Benz V-Class MPV is powered by a BS-VI complaint OM654 2.2-liter, four-cylinder diesel engine which churns out 158 bhp of maximum power and 350 Nm of peak torque. Notably, the engine unit comes mated to a 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox.
Mercedes' second attempt to find ground in India with MPVs
With the V-Class, Mercedes-Benz looks to create and capture a niche for luxury MPVs in India for the second time. Back in 2011, the Stuttgart-based company ventured in the relatively new segment with its R-Class MPV. However, it only found few buyers and was quickly discontinued. The V-Class Expression and Exclusive variants start at Rs. 68.40 lakh and Rs. 81.90 lakh, respectively.
