Maruti Suzuki bids second generation Swift farewell
Maruti Suzuki India has bid farewell to the current generation of its highly successful hatchback, the Maruti Swift. The last production model of the second generation Swift rolled off the assembly line in Manesar, Gurgaon on 23rd December, before Maruti Suzuki India halted production. Since its introduction in 2005, the Swift has been one of Maruti Suzuki's most profitable models.
The second generation Swift was more popular
After the launch of the first generation Swift in 2005, Maruti Suzuki India unveiled the second generation Swift in 2012. With more elements, both on the interior and exterior, and better cosmetics, the Swift's second generation model proved more popular than the first one. It was available in two powertrain options - a 1.2-litre K train petrol engine, and a 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine.
2018 will see new Swift, price hikes
According to various media reports, Maruti Suzuki India is set to launch the third generation Swift in 2018. The company also has plans to increase prices of all its models by 2% from January in order to partially balance out rise in input costs. Other automakers such as Ford, Tata Motors, Toyota, Honda, Skoda, and Isuzu have already announced price hikes in 2018.
