Sensex zooms 260 points as BJP takes lead in Karnataka
After opening lower, the benchmark BSE Sensex soared over 260 points in the early trade today after the Bharatiya Janata Party took the lead in the Karnataka State Assembly election results. In the counting for 222 seats, the BJP was leading in 113 seats while the ruling Congress was in the front in 65 constituencies in Karnataka as of 11:45 am. Here's more.
Markets trading higher as trends see BJP leading in Karnataka
The benchmark BSE Sensex has soared 260.94 points, or by 0.73%, to trade at 35,817.65. The broader NSE Nifty, meanwhile, also jumped 70.50 points, or 0.65%, to 10,877.10. Overseas, meanwhile, the markets in Asia were trading mixed as the investors assessed the outlook for the trade relations between the US and China and also the tensions in the Middle East.
FPIs bought Rs. 717.99cr-worth shares
The Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth a net Rs. 717.99 crore while the domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth Rs. 687.23 crore yesterday, as per provisional data.
