Centre mulls 'Made in India' label to boost global recognition
The Indian government is currently deliberating a scheme aimed at establishing a 'Made in India' label, as per a PTI report. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance the global recognition of brand India, according to an official involved in the discussions. A high-level committee has been tasked with reviewing the specifics of this potential scheme.
The goal is to create a strong brand identity
The primary objective of the 'Made in India' label proposal is to establish a robust brand identity for India on the global stage. This concept draws inspiration from successful branding strategies like 'Made in Japan' and 'Made in Switzerland.' These labels are associated with specific images and qualities that reflect their respective countries' strengths.
Discussions underway to implement label
The official further revealed that discussions are ongoing regarding the implementation of the 'Made in India' label. The focus is on whether this scheme should be applied specifically to sectors where India has a competitive edge, such as textiles. "We are having discussions on how we can do that," the official stated, emphasizing the importance of quality consciousness in promoting brand India globally.
Existing efforts to promote 'Made in India' label
Currently, the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF) is responsible for promoting the 'Made in India' label in international markets. The IBEF also facilitates knowledge dissemination about Indian products and services. This trust was established by the Department of Commerce as part of its ongoing efforts, to boost global awareness and appreciation for Indian-made goods.
