Mother's letter urges Lodha brothers to settle their dispute
What's the story
Manju Lodha, the mother of Abhishek and Abhinandan Lodha, has written a letter asking her sons to end their bitter feud.
The fight between the brothers, who are influential players in India's real estate industry, has been making headlines.
In her letter, Manju mentioned six directives to help the brothers reconcile and put an end to the fight.
Mother's guidance
Manju Lodha's directives for her sons
The six directives from Manju Lodha include not speaking ill of each other and avoiding conflicts.
She stressed that neither brother has any claim on the other's business or shareholdings, and they shouldn't interfere in each other's affairs.
The matriarch also asked her sons to resolve their disputes, show mutual respect, and help each other when needed.
Varied reactions
Brothers' differing responses to mother's letter
Abhishek Lodha, who heads the ₹1.18 lakh crore listed firm Macrotech Developers, said he respects his mother's letter and will abide by it.
He cited a 2017 agreement which states Macrotech/Lodha Developers's exclusive ownership of the Lodha real estate business and its intellectual property rights (IPR), including the trade name "Lodha."
However, his younger brother Abhinandan was disappointed over their mother's letter being made public.
Legal battle
Ongoing ₹5,000 crore trademark lawsuit
The brothers' feud has resulted in a ₹5,000 crore trademark lawsuit which the Bombay High Court has referred to mediation.
In this case, Abhishek is looking to stop Abhinandan's firm from using the "Lodha" name in any capacity.
The feud between the Lodha siblings dates back to 2015 and was formalized via a family settlement agreement in March 2017.
The agreement had a non-compete clause restricting Abhinandan from real estate activities in certain regions for specified periods.
