Banks to remain closed for 16 days in September 2023
In September 2023, banks in India will be closed for 16 days. This includes the second and fourth Saturdays and Sundays. According to the guidelines set by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks will not operate on nationwide public holidays, and certain regional holidays may apply, subject to each state's discretion. Regional holidays are at the discretion of state governments.
September 6, 7 - Sri Krishna Janmashtami
On Wednesday, September 6, banks will remain closed in Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh), and Bihar on the eve of Sri Krishna Janmashtami. And for the same occasion, on Thursday, September 7, banks will be closed in Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Hyderabad (Telangana), Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh, and Srinagar.
September 18, 19, 20 - Vinayak Chaturthi/Ganesh Chaturthi
On Monday, September 18, banks in Karnataka and Hyderabad (Telangana) will be closed in observance of Varasiddhi Vinayaka Vrata/Vinayaka Chathurthi. Then, on Tuesday, September 19, banks located in Gujarat, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Goa will remain closed on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi/Samvatsari (Chaturthi Paksha). Continuing the sequence of holidays, banks will be closed on the second day of Ganesh Chaturthi/Nuakhai on Wednesday, September 20.
September 22, 23, and 25 - Anniversaries of important personalities
Banks in Kerala will be closed on Friday, September 22, on the occasion of Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi Day. On September 23, the fourth Saturday, is already a bank holiday as Jammu and Kashmir will be observing Maharaja Hari Singh Ji's birthday. In Assam, banks will be closed on Monday, September 25, for the janmotsav of Srimanta Sankardeva.
September 27, 28, 29 - Eid
Banks will be closed on Wednesday, September 27, in Jammu and Kashmir, and Kerala for Milad-i-Sherif. On Thursday, September 28, banks in multiple states including Gujarat, Mizoram, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Hyderabad (Telangana), Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand will be closed for Eid-E-Milad/Eid-e-Meeladunnabi. Banks in Sikkim and Jammu and Kashmir will be closed on September 29 for Indrajatra following Eid-i-Milad-ul-Nabi.
Plus a total of 6 Weekdays
Banks throughout the country will remain closed on their regular weekly days offs. Specifically, the Sundays of September falling on 3, 10, 17, and 24 will see closures. As per the RBI's guidelines, the second and fourth Saturdays of each month are designated as bank holidays. Therefore, September 9 and 23 will also be observed as bank holidays.
