Karnataka's KHIR-City project to create 1L jobs, attract ₹40,000cr investment
The Karnataka government is set to launch its ambitious Knowledge Health Innovation Research-City (KHIR-City) project on September 26. The initiative, inspired by global innovation hubs like Singapore's Biopolis and the US's Research Triangle Park, will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at Vidhana Soudha. The ceremony will host dignitaries from across India and abroad, as per Minister for Large and Medium Industries MB Patil.
KHIR-City to span over 2,000 acres
The KHIR-City project will be spread across more than 2,000 acres, with the initial phase covering 500 acres. The project is expected to attract an investment of over ₹40,000 crore and create approximately one lakh jobs. These employment opportunities will include both direct and indirect roles. The city will be strategically located between Doddaballapura and Dobaspet, approximately 50km from Kempegowda International Airport.
Advisory committee formed to ensure project's progress
To guarantee the project's timely completion, an advisory committee has been established. This committee includes prominent figures like Dr. Devi Shetty, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Prashanth Prakash, Thomas Osha, Ron Kimball, Mohandas Pai, and Nikhil Kamath among others. The city is designed to accommodate a residential density of 100 people per acre, and will incorporate elements from Bengaluru's Electronics City into its design.
KHIR-City to boost Karnataka's economy and exports
The KHIR-City project is anticipated to significantly boost Karnataka's economy and increase exports. It aims to enhance Bengaluru's global standing by housing world-class universities, innovative industries, hospitals, and research institutions. These facilities will form the foundation of this visionary project. The city is expected to become a hub for knowledge, health innovation, and research in the region.
