JioGigaFiber Preview users to get free service for 2 months
Reliance Jio's FTTH service, GigaFiber aka Jio Fiber, which has been in testing phase for over a year now, will be commercially rolled out in the country on September 5 with a welcome surprise for preview customers. According to TOI, the company "will be offering the Jio Fiber service free for at least two months" to all preview customers. Here's more on this development.
Free service for two months with no restrictions
According to the report, existing customers of Jio GigaFiber will get free access to the service for at least the first two months after it launches commercially on Thursday. It also says that if a user wants, he/she can opt-out of the service and take back the security deposit they paid for the connection. The amount might vary depending on the user's ONT device.
After commercial roll-out, the installation charges will be Rs. 1,000
Meanwhile, contrary to Jio's announcement that in the initial phase, the end-to-end installation would be free, the TOI report claims that once the service is launched commercially, users will be charged Rs. 1,500 as refundable security deposit and Rs. 1,000 as installation charges.
What will Jio GigaFiber offer?
Notably, GigaFiber will offer 100Mbps of speed with the entry-level plan of Rs. 700. The top-end plan with 1Gbps speed and access to Jio HomeTV as well as Jio's IoT products will cost Rs. 10,000/month. Subscribers will also get unlimited free voice calling benefits. Further, customers opting for Jio 'Forever Annual' plan will get an HD/4K LED TV and 4K set-top box for free.
Everything to know about Jio HomeTV service
Interestingly, Jio GigaFiber will also power Jio HomeTV, the company's home entertainment solution. The service will be available via a set-top box which is supported by Local Cable Operators. It will offer features such as video calling (via external camera), on-demand services, online gaming, and Mixed Reality (MR) experiences. However, the availability of services will depend on the plan you subscribe to.
