JioFiber Platinum v/s Airtel VIP: The better 1Gbps broadband plan?
After a great run with its mobile services, Reliance Jio looks to disrupt India's broadband market with its newly launched JioFiber service. But Jio's biggest competitor in this space - Bharti Airtel - has also upped the ante by introducing some premium plans that offer attractive benefits, more data, and faster speeds. Here, we analyze which telco offers a better 1Gbps broadband plan.
What are the benefits of Airtel's 1Gbps plan?
Airtel's 'VIP' plan promises up to 1Gbps broadband speed and unlimited data access at Rs. 3,999 per month. However, the plan is not truly unlimited since there is a defined FUP limit of 3,333GB. Once you exhaust this data limit, the speed will be throttled down to 1Mbps. As part of bundled benefits, this premium plan comes with unlimited local/STD calling as well.
The VIP plan also offers several #AirtelThanks benefits
Alongside the data and calling benefits, the VIP plan also offers #AirtelThanks benefits including a free 3-month Netflix subscription, Amazon Prime annual subscription, and full access to ZEE5 as well as Airtel's Xstream online streaming service.
How does JioFiber Platinum plan fare against Airtel's offering?
JioFiber offers a couple of 1Gbps plans but the 'Platinum' plan is the one which directly competes with Airtel's VIP offering. The monthly pack offers up to 1Gbps broadband speed and unlimited data with an FUP limit set at 2,500GB. Once you exhaust this data, you will continue to get internet access but at 1Mbps speed. Notably, the Platinum plan costs Rs. 3,999/month.
The Platinum plan also comes with a bunch of freebies
JioFiber's Platinum plan also comes with a host of bundled benefits including free voice calls (local+STD), video calling/conferencing, zero-latency gaming, Norton security for up to 5 devices, First-Day-First-Show movies, VR experience, and an annual subscription of OTT apps. Moreover, if you opt for the annual Welcome Offer, you'll get a free 32-inch HD TV, 4K Jio set-top box, and Jio Home Gateway device.
So, which one is better?
After comparing the two, we know that Airtel's VIP plan has more data benefit that JioFiber's Platinum pack. However, the JioFiber pack has more bundled benefits, especially if you subscribe to the Welcome Offer. But considering both plans promise upto 1Gbps speed, offer some OTT content, and cost the same (Rs. 3,999/month) you can choose either of them (depending on your location).
