Jio, otherwise known as Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, is a subsidiary of Jio Platforms headquartered in Mumbai Maharashtra. This Indian telecommunications giant shot to fame when it offered 4G services free of charge for a limited period when it was launched. Jio exclusively uses the 4G network and the Voice over LTE (VoLTE) protocol to provide voice calling services. The service was introduced as a beta for employees in 2015 and it became publicly available late in 2016. Jio now has the distinction of being India's largest and the world's third-largest mobile network operator with well over 42.6 crore subscribers. In 2019, Jio launched a wired broadband internet service for homes and enterprises called JioFiber. The company remains a subsidiary of Reliance Industries with founder Mukesh Ambani at the helm. Jio has also launched a budget segment 4G smartphone called the JioPhone. Interestingly, geo-branded services such as Jio Mags and JioTV are offered as complementary benefits to almost all Jio subscribers.
