Reliance Jio tops 4G download speed chart: Details here
Reliance Jio, which recently bagged the coveted title of being the largest telecom company in India, has now topped the 4G speed chart in the country. According to TRAI data, Jio offered the fastest mobile network with an average download speed of 21Mbps in the month of July. In terms of upload speeds, Vodafone topped the list. Here's how other competitors fared.
First of all, how does TRAI compute the results?
The average download and upload speeds were computed by TRAI based on the real-time data it collects from the 'MySpeed' application. The MySpeed app, available for both Android and iOS, shows users' data speeds and coverage provided by various telecom operators in India.
Airtel came second with an average download speed of 8.8Mbps
In comparison to its 4G download speed of 17.6Mbps in June this year, Jio's network recorded improvement in speed at 21Mbps to lead the rankings in July. Bharti Airtel settled for the second sport with 8.8Mbps of average download speed - less than half of Jio's. Meanwhile, Vodafone managed 7.7Mbps to come third while Idea Cellular took the fourth spot with 6.6Mbps download speed.
Interestingly, Vodafone offered the fastest upload speed
Notably, Vodafone topped the charts in terms of 4G upload speeds. As per the TRAI data, the telco registered an average upload speed of 5.8Mbps in the month of July. Idea Cellular, which came second, recorded an upload speed of 5.3Mbps. Jio and Airtel held the third and fourth spots with an upload speed of 4.3Mbps and 3.2Mbps, respectively.
BSNL emerged as the leading 3G service provider
As per the TRAI data, state-run BSNL was the fastest 3G operator with an average download speed of 2.5Mbps in July. Idea Cellular took the second spot with 2Mbps download speed. In terms of upload speed, both telcos recorded an average upload speed of 1.2Mbps.
