Jio Fiber roll-out from September 5, priced at Rs. 700/month
On Monday, August 12, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) held its 42nd Annual General Meeting in Mumbai. The company's Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani discussed the growth and future bets of the company and announced that Jio Fiber service will be available starting September 5 - at the third anniversary of Jio's launch. The basic plan will start at Rs. 700/month. Here's more.
Plan to reach 20 million residences
Ambani said Reliance Jio has invested more than Rs. 3.5 lakh crore to set up the infrastructure for Fiber broadband. He claimed the company has received over 50 million registration for the fiber-to-the-home service and will reach 20 million residences and 15 million businesses in 1,600 towns. The roll-out of the network, he said, will be completed within 12 months.
How much Jio Fiber service would cost
Ambani said Jio Fiber services will offer internet speeds between 100 Mbps and 1Gbps. He added the base plan promising 100Mbps of speed would be available at Rs. 700/month, while the top-end plan promising 1Gbps speed and access to Jio HomeTV and Jio's IoT products would be priced at Rs. 10,000/month. More details about the plans will be revealed after the September 5 launch.
Unlimited calling to any fixed, mobile number
Jio Fiber plans will also be bundled with a landline service that will let you make free voice calls to any operator, be it fixed-line or mobile, in India. The telco will also reduce the tariff for international calls by making the default charges 1/5th to 1/10th of existing rates. Plus, unlimited calls to the US and Canada would be offered at Rs. 500/month.
Additional benefits for annual subscribers
Ambani also announced a special deal as part of the Welcome offer of Jio Fiber service. He said, the customers who will take the annual subscription of Jio Fiber services will be entitled to a free HD LED or 4K television and a 4K set-top box. Plus, in 2020, premium Jio Fiber subscribers will get access to a service for watching the latest releases.
