Jio beats rivals, offers best 4G download speeds in India
According to a report by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Reliance Jio has beaten all its rival 4G telecom operators in the country to record an average peak download speed of 21.3 Megabits per second (Mbps) on its network in January, 2018. In terms of 4G upload speeds, Idea topped the charts with an average peak speed of 6.9 Mbps. Here's more.

Jio topped the charts to record average peak speed of 21.3 Mbps on its 4G network. It is more than two times the average peak speed of Bharti Airtel which recorded 8.8 Mbps to come second on the list. Vodafone stood at the third spot whereas Idea Cellular came fourth by registering download speeds of 7.2 Mbps and 6.8 Mbps respectively.

Idea topped the charts in terms of 4G upload speeds. As per TRAI report, Idea registered an average peak upload speed of 6.9 Mbps in the month of January. Vodafone, which came second, recorded a peak upload speed of 5.5 Mbps. Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel held the third and fourth spots with an upload speed of 4.5 Mbps and 3.9 Mbps respectively.
How has TRAI computed the results?
The average download and upload speeds have been computed by TRAI based on the real-time data it collects from the 'MySpeed' application. The MySpeed app, available for both Android and iOS, shows users' data speeds and coverage provided by various telecom operators in India.
