Four new data add-on packs introduced
Reliance Jio has stated that JioPhone users can start subscribing to the Rs. 49 prepaid plan from Republic Day, 26 January. JioPhone users who need additional data can recharge with these add-on packs.
Jio banks on JioPhone sales to boost its subscriber base
JioPhone is an important product for Reliance Jio as it can significantly boost the telecom company's user base. The telco reportedly had a user base of 145.96 million subscribers as of October-end, according to TRAI. In fact, Jio has an internal target of getting 400 million subscribers on board by 2018-end; it would take advantage of the SIM-locked JioPhone to achieve this target.
Features and specs of 4G JioPhone
The 4G VoLTE JioPhone has a 2.40-inch display, dual-core Spreadtrum SPRD 9820A/QC8905 processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal-storage (expandable up to 128GB), 0.3MP front camera, and 2MP rear camera. Jio is the leading feature phone-maker thanks to JioPhone
JioPhone is not a smartphone but rather a "smart" feature phone that supports 4G LTE and VoLTE, which is necessary as Jio offers only 4G network services. The phone is "full-fledged internet device" that offers many smartphone-like features. JioPhone is so popular that it helped Reliance Jio become India's "No. 1" feature phone brand, dethroning Samsung, in Q4 2017, according to Counterpoint Research.
