Jeff Bezos just bought a $68 million home near Miami
Jeff Bezos has acquired a waterfront mansion near Miami, Florida, United States. The founder of Amazon and the world's third-richest person, Bezos, agreed to pay $68 million for the estate located on Indian Creek, a man-made barrier island within the Miami area, as confirmed by a reliable source familiar with the matter. Constructed in 1965, this three-bedroom property sits on 2.8 acres of land.
Previous owner has a connection to Panama
The property's previous owner was MTM Star International, a company connected to Panama. While public records confirm the sale occurred in June, the ultimate buyer's identity remained undisclosed. Interestingly, the property's transaction history revealed that the most recent known sale before this current one dates back to the year 1982, when it exchanged ownership for a sum of $1.4 million.
He is considering buying more on the island
At age 59, Bezos is reportedly considering buying more such properties in the area, Fortune reported. The Indian Creek, often referred to as the "Billionaire Bunker," has been home to notable figures including Carl Icahn, Tom Brady, Jared Kushner, and Ivanka Trump. It's located between Bal Harbour and Miami Beach and has 40 residential properties, a country club, and exceptional security provisions.
The properties Bezos owns seem endless
In the past few years, Bezos has bought several homes. He has one in Washington DC. He also bought a huge mansion in Beverly Hills for $165 million in 2020, which sits on nine acres of land. He has another property in Maui. He also owns homes in Manhattan and Seattle, multiple apartments in New York City, and even a massive ranch in Texas.
Property rates on the island have gone up recently
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Bezos has a huge fortune of $163 billion. If he moves to Indian Creek, he would become the richest person living there. Real estate prices have gone up a lot in that area. This is because many extremely rich people from around the world are buying homes there, including Ken Griffin, Dan Loeb, and Josh Harris.
His spending has increased recently
Following his divorce from his wife MacKenzie Scott and his stepping down as the CEO of Amazon in 2021, Bezos has been allocating substantial funds toward acquiring exceptionally opulent and extravagant possessions. Earlier this year he bought a luxury superyacht called the Koru, which was launched this year and is estimated to have incurred a manufacturing cost of around $500 million.
