Apple investigating splitting open of iPhone 8 Pluses
Apple is currently investigating reports of its iPhone 8 Plus splitting open, the reasons for which remain unclear. So far, two cases of the iPhone 8 Plus splitting open have been reported - one in Taiwan, and the other in Japan. Till Apple finds out what exactly is going on, it's best to put any plans of buying the iPhone 8 Plus on hold.
The peculiarities of the two cases
The first instance of splitting occurred in Taiwan where an iPhone 8 Plus split open within minutes of being put on charge. The phone had been in use for five days. The second instance happened in Japan where the iPhone 8 Plus was already split open when the owner opened the package. Apple is currently investigating the Taiwan case.
A worrying question looms large for Apple
Owing to the specifics of the two cases recorded so far, no single causal reason has been identified. However, it is unlikely that the issue is battery-related. It is most likely a fault in the glue and the screws which hold the phone together. Regardless, the bigger question is whether these are isolated incidents, a bad batch, or a general defect with the phone.
